Who Is This City Of Ten Hills?

And he saith unto me, The waters which thou 

sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, 

and multitudes, and nations and tongues. And the 

ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, 

these shall hate the whore, and shall make her 

desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, 

and burn her with fire. For God hath put in their

 hearts to fulfill His will, and to agree, 

and give their kingdom unto the beast, until 

the words of God shall be fulfilled. And the 

woman which thou sawest is that great city, 

which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

Revelation 17:15-18 

     To begin I again must address words, especially those that have a meaning that is not complete as there are several meanings to a word. We then see how that word applies to the Scripture. For instance: Whore: A whore engages in promiscuous sexual activity. To be promiscuous is characterized by having numerous sexual partners on a causal basis. But promiscuous also means to be indiscriminate; without discrimination, or casual, irregular; haphazard. Therefore a whore can refer to anyone, man or woman, that engages in irregular sexual, and causal sex, including foreplay, as well as actual sex. A homosexual is doing what is irregular in sexual activity, and is often indiscriminate as to partners, this occurs with those who are not homosexual, but does include transgender. A whore is a harlot and a harlot is a prostitute and a prostitute is is a person who engages in sexual intercourse for money, or other benefits. Furthermore a prostitute is one who willingly uses his/her talents or ability in a base and unworthy way, an unworthy use.

     John sees the whore and where this whore sits, and the whore is sitting upon people, multitudes of peoples, and even nation, and various languages. (Tongues means language, not some gibberish unknown babble). The definitions come to play here as this whore is a prostitute and is causing many people to engage in irregular, indiscriminate religious beliefs and is using its talents and abilities in an unworthy way. Now the beast turns upon this woman, this whore, this prostitute and hates this whore and causes this whore to become desolate, even naked, that is, to be seen for what she is by anyone who will look upon the whore. They eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. All this because God has put into their hearts to do such things so that His words will be fulfilled. Yet, even with all this hatred and devouring, burning of this whore, they still give their allegiance to the beast. 

     Now the woman is that great city that reigns over the kings of the earth. Some have assigned this city to be Rome, and use that Rome sits upon seven hills. This may be true but when John wrote the Revelation Rome was a governing power but was not the religious power as the Vatican became especially after Constantine. We must to simply say that Rome is this city but we do see some things that the Roman Catholic Church has done and become as it does have influence over many nations, even those who are Buddhist, or Hinduism give the Pope some power. Roman Catholic Church has adopted many pagan religious practices and icons so as to win over people although they give those things "Christian" names. 

     Rome may be such a city, but there is more than Roman Catholicism that is becoming powerful and reigning over many people in many lands throughout this earth. Mormonism and Jehovah Witnesses reign over many people and teach false doctrine. Pentecost religions have captured the hearts and minds of many throughout the world with their emphasis on "supernaturalism" and beliefs that are not in accord with Scripture. Such things as "holy drunkenness," or "holy sardonic laughter," or "slain in the spirit," or becoming in this world perfect, sinless," and praising anecdotes, and allegory as though they were fact. People are swayed by those men and women who prey upon the unsuspecting. This beast is great, it is so great that it encompasses more than just the Roman Catholic Church, it encompasses those who are misleading people to accept false teaching. These followers turn upon the woman but only to make cause that what they teach and believe should be what the world teaches and believes (we see this in Islam). 

     God, through the apostle John gives us fair warning as to what this beast, this woman, this whore, this prostitute is up to and gives not only a warning but shows the way out of these teachings and for those never to enter into these teachings. 

     There is only One who should rule and reign over us and that One is Jesus Christ. If this is not true of you then I plead with you to read the Bible, slowly, and pray for guidance by the Holy Spirit, and examine anything, even what I write to ensure that what is written or said is Scriptural. No making Scripture fit a predetermined belief, rather that Scripture gives us our belief. Will you do it?

With my whole heart have I sought thee:
