And the kings of the earth,f who have committed fornication and live deliciously with her,
shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall
see the smoke of her burning, standing afar off for
the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great
city Babylon, that mighty city: for in one hour is thy judgment come. And the merchants of the earth shall
weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more: the merchandise of gold,
and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of most precious wood,
and of brass, and iron, and marble, and cinnamon,
and odours, and ointments, and frankincense,
and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beast, and sheep, and horses and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. and the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed form thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all. The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, and saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls: for in one hour so great riches is come to nought.
And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships,
and sailor, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
and cried when they say the smoke of her burning,
saying, What city is like unto this great city. And they
cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and
wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein
were made rich all that had ships in the sea by
reason of her costliness: for in one hour is
she made desloate.
Revelation 18:9-19
Those men and women who became friends with the woman and prostituted themselves for gain, those who shared in her sensual pleasures and gained fame, wealth and traded with others who had aligned themselves with this Great city Babylon now mourn her. Out of fear they stand afar off for fear that they too will bear the plagues that come upon this city Babylon. To be with this city Babylon gave comfort to all who follow after her and now: she is falling and losing her power and these followers cry, lament over the loss of this city Babylon.
What a pity: those associated with this Babylon do not cry over idolatry, they did not cry against all the luxury that they partook, and they did not lament over this woman persecuting the true Church, those faithful men and women to Jesus Christ by following His commandments, no they cry for their loss but not for their sin. This fear they have is a fear for themselves punishment. What we do not see is that they turn from their sins and repent and follow Jesus. This sorrow is a worldly sorrow and is of the spirit of the antichrist and they even have anger towards God.
This vision of John does not leave anyone out of this plague and the falling of the worldly city that has had influence of nations of people where ever they are and whoever they are, what cast system they belong too, what job they hold, and no matter their riches: all lose what they had with this whore, this prostitute, this representative of Satan and now they lament, they cry: but they do not turn back to God. This city, Babylon falls quickly as represented by the use of "one hour" so that when judgment comes to her she does not have time to adjust and to reinvent herself to save herself, she dies quickly and all who are associated with her lament about this quick falling into a death and they too will come to die and die in their sins.
WARNING! God is coming! God is bringing judgment upon the sinful! When? I do not know the hour, but I do know when: THE LAST DAY! Since we do not know the exact hour Jesus returns for His bride would it not make sense to examine your faith? Would it not make sense to be a faithful and discreet slave? Would it not be the right time, now, to repent of you sins and pick up your cross and follow Jesus? YES! Why are you waiting?
Surely thou wilt slay the wicked,
O God: depart from me therefore,
ye bloody men. For they speak
against thee wickedly, and thine
enemies take thy name in vain.
Do ot I hate them, O LORD, that
hate thee? And am not I grieved with
those that rise up against thee?
Psalm 139:19-21
Repent and be saved
