O Timothy, keep that which is
committed to thy trust, avoiding
profane and vain babblings, and
oppositions of science falsely
so called which some professing
have erred concerning the faith.
1Timothy 6:20-21a
A problem that exists in the Christian Church today is not only liberal Christianity but from that liberal theology has come preaching that is not exegetical, rather it more like a pastor determining whether or not his sermon would be acceptable to the congregation. This has led to many profane and vain babblings, and even opposition to Authentic Christian Faith. What is meant by "exegesis?" Exegesis is critical explanation or interpretation of Scripture. To exegesis means that a person takes time and study to critically examine Scripture and not rely on some speculative interpretation. Those who are unwilling to do the work of exegesis are outside Authentic Christian Faith so that they hurl winds of novelties, novelties that tickle the hearts of many leading them into wild and stormy waters of error. A pastor that is in that category must learn well what they had not learned well, and return the the truth of the doctrine of the Church and grasp with understanding, believe what they cannot grasp by holding fast to that which is Scriptural and by continued study, prayer allow themselves to be led by the Holy Spirit to a clear understanding.
Over the years I have been surprise at this new worldly culture that has encompasses the Church, and the monstrous madness of certain men, at the huge impiety of their blinded mentality, and their passion for error that they are not satisfied with the rule of faith handed down and once received from the early Church fathers, the prophets of old, but are seeking innovation after innovation and continually add new to religion, to change something, or remove something, as though the doctrine of old is not enough, not able to suffice in this world's culture. there is much criticism because they do not believe that the Bible is perfect and is in need of revision. Timothy is admonished by Paul as the opening verses cry out.
An example of revision or changing something because there are those who criticize adversely that which has been the foundation of the Church. It is the use of the Critical Text to revise the Majority Text, the Textus Receptus, Scriptural works that has been the bulwark for our Christian Faith. Why? First: there is no such thing in one text that is the Critical Text, it does not exist for it is a correlative work, that is to find Scripture verses from one source to another until they find a consensus for what they have already determined. Their babbling nonsense is that due to some manuscripts are old make them a better source, but when examined it is found that those older manuscripts were not in much use and were in good condition whereby the other manuscripts were used and in constant need to be copied as the older wore out. I wonder: Why did Jehovah Witnesses stop using the King James Version and used, with some of their changes, use the Critical Text? It is because Jesus Christ is not held high in such texts that use the Critical text, but some teachers, preachers have propounded that this change was necessary. Really? Is not the Bible that led to the Reformation not good enough?
With impudence, with such adamantine pertinacity they hammer out against anything that does not meet their new innovations. Paul points out that even in his day some were bringing into the Church new innovations, masquerades of truth, falsely called truth, professing what they had done, missed the truth, miss the mark, and have added new and unknown doctrine.
Paul points out that Authentic Christians are to guard the faith, that which had been entrusted to him, and to us. Paul saw in his day and understood that in the future godless men would chatter about as though they have found a "secret", a "key," to the truth. People like that which is a found "secret," or a "key," that they need to that which is unknown, duped as they are to follow error. Authentic Christians are not to substitute one thing for the other, the counterfeit for the real. Let yourselves, your posterity, learn the truth by good exegesis of Scripture and teach that which was given of old by God, providentially protected and add nothing new. God has given to you a gift, the Bible, complete, inspired word of God, a precious gift. Yes, you may not know much of the Bible now, but by study, by good translation, by good exegesis, and by prayer to God to lead you into the truth, in time you will progress in your understanding, not by some alteration, rather by the Holy Spirit aiding you to understand what has already been revealed in His word.
Whose is simple, let him turn in hither:
as for him that wanteth understanding,
she saith to him: "Come, eat of my bread,
and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
Forsake the foolish and live; and go
in the way of understanding.
Proverbs 9:4-6
Become an examiner, not duped
