Is Jesus God? Does The Bible Teach That Jesus Is God?

Now the Angel of the LORD
found her by a spring of water
in the wilderness, by the spring
on the way to Shur. And He said,
"Hagar, Sarai's maid, where have
you come from, and where are
you going?" She said, "I am fleeing
from the presence of my mistress Sarai."
The Angel of the LORD said to her,
"I will multiply your descendants
exceedingly, so that they shall not
be counted for multitude."
Then she called the name or the LORD
who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-
Who-Sees; for she said, "Have I also
seen Him who sees me?"
Genesis 16:7-10,13

This question as the deity of Jesus Christ as been as a plague upon the Christian Church from the foundation of Christianity.  You too may have questions about this doctrine that Jesus is God.  You may have wondered how could this be that there is an Angel of God and how can this Angel of God be God? You find yourself at odds with this doctrine because you do not have the knowledge to affirm its truth, or even to affirm its falsity. This doctrine may be disconcerting to you because you just don't know. Therefore, you lay it aside, maybe ignore it, or you just take it on faith, but a faith without foundation. An answer to this question as to the divinity of Jesus Christ will help you to answer the question of the Trinity.  This blog is not designed to address this doctrine of the Trinity, it is address as to the divinity of Jesus.  This will not be address in its completeness in one blog, so this blog is designed to stir up in you a desire to have an answer, Is Jesus God?  Jehovah Witnesses will say, no. The Modalist will say that Jesus is nothing more that a mode of God operating as the Son.  Mormons will say that there are many gods, even that people are gods, and are polytheistic, so Jesus is not the Father, the God overall gods. And then there are those who claim to be either agnostic or an Atheist, and just cannot believe that a man, Jesus, could be God.
Let us begin with this, Redemption.  Redemption is a distinguishing doctrine of the Bible.  The Bible written over thousands of years establishes this theme of Redemption. For Redemption to occur there is necessity that there be a Redeemer.  The Bible outlines the office of the Redeemer.  And, as anyone who is working or has worked knows, for you to carry out your duties you must know the nature of the work, and what is to be accomplished.  The Bible does this in regard to the Redeemer, that He is to be both at once, God and man.  Does the Bible actually teach this?  Yes! And you will see that this is plain and clear, not by my interpretation, rather by Scripture interpreting Scripture. The Bible teaches us that the Redeemer must participate in the nature of those He would come to Redeem.  This Redeemer must have  the power to subdue evil.  The Redeemer must be able to give dignity and value to man's obedience and suffering. Is this what the Bible teaches? Take time and read the Bible and you will see for yourself that from Genesis to Revelation the Redeemer is depicted as the object deserving of our supreme devotion, reverence, and worship.  This Redeemer is worthy of our love and the One with whom we can have confidence. Throughout Scripture there many passages giving evidence that this doctrine of a Redeemer is a foundational doctrine.  With so much evidence it seems almost superfluous to even have need to discuss this, but we must for many have misconstrued the facts, and teach not what the Bible teaches.  There are many who deny this doctrine That Jesus is God.  Therefore, I must present this foundational doctrine in light of Scripture, so that those gainsayers may be resisted.
This is the beginning of this study.  Cultural, or liberal "Christians" have "muddied" this doctrine and give a twist on it that is not Scriptural, but does satisfy their emotions, and beliefs.  Authentic Biblical Christians will want to know the truth and be able to defend that truth.  We are the ambassadors of God with one purpose overall; we are to preach and teach the Gospel.  But if Jesus is being taught what the Bible does not teach, then we must stand up for the truth and be ready to defend our faith.
Who is this Angel that spoke with Hagar, and others as recorded in God's word?  I will address this in the next blogs.  Praise God! He has reveal Himself to us in His Word.

The law of the LORD is
     perfect, converting the soul;
the testimony of the LORD is
    sure, making wise the simple.
