And I saw in the right hand of Him that sat
on the throne a book written within and
on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with
a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book,
and to loose the seals thereof? And no man
in heaven, nor in earth, neither under
the earth, was able to open the book, neither
to look thereon. An I wept much, because
no man was found worthy to open and
to read the book, neither to look thereon.
And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not:
behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the
Root of David, hath prevailed to open
the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
Revelation 5:1-5
The number "seven" comes up again and we must remember that the number "seven" is expressive of universality, fullness, and perfection. The word "horn" describes omnipotence and emblem of power, and the word "eyes" signify God's Omnipresence and His Omniscience, so then the "seven seals" represent the fullness and perfection, the completeness of what this book will reveal. The "book" seen by the apostle Paul is not to be seen as we see a book that is bound with pages, rather as was in those times what was written was written on scrolls so the book must then have been seen as seven scrolls. How do I know this? Well, the Greek word: "βίβλος" means the inner bark of the papyrus plant and why the inner bark? The inner bark is the cellular portion and used by men from earlier times to write upon as this portion was writable and long lasting. Furthermore, after writing upon the papyrus then the papyrus was rolled up and kept until read again. We get the English word "paper" from papyrus.
This book though was sealed, that is that not just anyone could read this book and this was the case for no man, either in heaven, nor upon the earth could read this book. John saw that this book was important and due to no one being able to read it brought him to tears for he knew that the book contained much that he and we need to know. Why could no man read the book? No man was worthy to read the book. The information contain in these scrolls are know to God and will not be opened by anyone else than the Lamb, Jesus Christ Who will reveal to those believing upon Him, those who are Authentic Christians and not following some man' theology. The scrolls would be opened only by the love, kindness and willingness to give to His children the information that would reveal the conditions and circumstances that would occur as shown by a seal that would be opened, those things that tell about the antichrist, and would lead for a true student and loving of God what would occur in the last days. Here in Revelation is not the first time that a Book" was seen in a vision and that the one having this vision to seal up the words until the end time. In Revelation chapter 10 we will see again, when we get to this chapter, that the book is referred to again, but earlier the prophet Daniel had a vision: "But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased" (Daniel 12:4). The eyes of the unbeliever cannot ever read or understand the words of the book even if they could open the book. Jesus gave us this encouragement: "I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hath revealed them unto the babes. Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight" (Matthew 11:25). The word "hath" in Greek is aorist meaning that in some time God did: when? we do not know for all we know is that God did. Man trying to unravel this mystery have come up with so many theories, even doctrines but all we know for sure is that the unbeliever will not be allowed to know what was hid, only those who are Authentic Christians, not nominal, not some other form of Christianity, only Authentic Christians that allow God in His time to reveal what is need to be known. It is unfortunate that many so-called "Christian" men attempt to explain or even to execute the counsels of God and not allow Him to reveal for not even angels, nor anyone without the permission of God will ever know what was and is written in these scrolls. Yet, many men who think they are so wise, full or wisdom that they can unravel the decrees of God. Man cannot go any further than what God has revealed and we can know the revelations of God by examining what is said to be of those scrolls (or anything else that is taught) by Scripture. First of all, no man can open the book so how could a man know what is in the book if he/she cannot open it? They cannot for only God can open the book. Those desires to know the supernatural and run before God's revelation only come to grief and despair and those believing this false teaching, they too only come to grief and despair.
If John wept because he could not open it, and no other man could open it why would any man/woman think they could open the book? Be in prayer, be in a close relationship with God, with His Son Jesus Christ and allow Him to communicate in His time what you need to know. But you must not weep when what is revealed is harsh respecting this world. You will not get some special vision, as some teach, no, you will not get anything above what you have come to know from Scripture and this knowledge is increased when you memorize and recall the verses, Scripture, now God has what He would need to cause you to understand His will for you, and for this world. You do your part: God will do His part. God uses means and God will use you to be a light unto the world if you will only allow Him to be the leader and not run ahead of Him and to follow after false teaching. There is an old saying: "keep it simple, stupid," (K.I.S.S.). We are not wise enough to know the mysteries of God outside of Him revealing them to us, and He will not, and has not revealed more than what is needed at the time. Here is the glorious part and the encouraging part: GOD WILL REVEAL TO HIS CHILDREN HIS WILL so we need not be afraid.
And he said, Go thy way, Daniel:
for the words are closed up
and sealed till the time of the end.
Many shall be purified, and made white,
and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly:
and none of the wicked shall understand;
but the wise shall understand.
Daniel 12:9-10
Wait upon the Lord: Do not rush!
