Whoever confesses that Jesus
is the Son of God,
God abides in him,
and he in God.
1John 4:15
...that if you confess
with your mouth the Lord Jesus
and believe in your heart
that God has raised Him
from the dead,
you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes
unto righteousness,
and with the mouth confession
is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:9-10
Many say the name of Jesus Christ and even use His name in the name of their religion. There is a difference in declaring or using the name of Jesus with confessing Jesus. It is this misunderstanding that needs clarification. The Greek word that is translated "confession" is more than declaring, it is to speak the same thing (homologeo: home=same; logeo=to speak). It to confess, admit, in your speaking, a free speaking, not under compulsion, other than you knowledge and deep conviction of facts. It is an allegiance to the One spoken about, in this case, Jesus. It is being identified in your thought, in thought, or by language to the One spoken of, and this is done in private for sure, but more importantly in public. Public confession is more than simply declaring, it is to demonstrate that you are committed, and have an allegiance to the One you are confessing. You are then to be acknowledging the truth. Therefore this study is to assist a person to know the truth in a world that has distorted the truth, both secular and religious.
Curiosity may have "killed" the cat, but it won't kill you, but lack of curiosity may lead a person to become either apathetic, or into a religion that sounds truthful but has latched on to some pagan philosophies that are contradictory to Scripture. They may sound Scriptural, they may use Scripture, albeit, out of context. How can we know? Be curious, be studious, be curious enough to check out what is being taught, or said, or done. Study of our Christian heritage of our faith, how it developed throughout history is an important and worthwhile pursuit for it will aid you in your sanctification, your growth in faith, and you ability to stand firm for the truth in the face of those who oppose you, or ask questions of you. How do we meet the various controversies? Study, learn, and apply the facts, and all the while comparing what is taught or said, by Scripture. It is not a distorted Scriptural comparison, it is a comparison as to what is actually stated in Scripture. We learn to disgard the false and to cling to the truth. We have an opportunity in this blog to do just that and I hope that you will continue to learn and check out what is being written. This is an argument that is important, not a quarrel for quarreling gets in the way of argument as C.K. Chesterson said about him and his brother.
Today I am taking time to study and then report on my next blog, as I continue to examine and investigate how those early philosophers impacted Christianity, and the world at large who has an impact on Christians. Therefore this is a short blog, but one that I believe is important for it is to remind that we are to confess Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior, with our mouth, with our lives, and to be ready to speak the truth.
Love does no harm to a neighbor,
therefore love is the fulfillment
of the law. And o this, knowing the time,
that now it is high time to awake
out of sleep; for now our salvation
is nearer than when we first believed.
Romans 13:10-11
