The Foremost Issue Is---Is The Bible Trustworthy Or Not?

For since the creation
of the world
His attributes are
clearly seen,
being understood by
the things that are made,
even His eternal power
and Godhead,
so that they are
without excuse.
Romans 1:20

As I (we) examine the various manuscripts and translations, transcriptions, at least a few to give some information by which you can be led to some knowledge of the few differences that I point out as being insertions, or omissions, that cannot be the inspired word of God, rather ideologies, or theologies that are of a man's opinion, but not based upon fact. The question that must be answered by a person who desires the truth is whether or not they, you, believe the Bible to be infallible, and preserved by God unto this day, and if so, is the translation you read, and expect to be the actual word of God, infallible, preserved, translated correctly, or not? Some of the theological scholars allow for divergent meanings from the apparent rendering of the text: an example would be the word "day" as found in the first verses of Genesis and make that word mean "age." Those scholars would suggest that translations, and interpretations should be filtered by various extra-biblical methods and standards. There are methods of naturalism, and allegorical methods, and various hybridization attempting to make accommodations synthesize naturalistic science and Biblical revelation. Some men, even much so today, have found "New" discoveries and these discoveries are some "new" found revelation. Unfortunately those discoveries are over and above God's word; this makes the Bible not to be infallible, and to be incomplete. How can anyone then trust the Bible if it is malleable and in need of "new" discoveries? Is God omnipotent, omniscient? Rejection of some portions of Scripture or Scripture fraught with interpolations, heretical insertions, or omissions will undermine our faith and even to the point of rejection the infallibility of the Bible, furthermore our understanding of the Bible will dissolve our confidence of God's revelation and the Biblical message, reducing the Gospel and our relationship with God, His Son, and not allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us.
A major controversy raging over the years is that of Mark 16:9-20: should they be considered Scripture and inspired by the Holy Spirit, or not? In fact if you examine your version, not the King James Version, or the New King James Version, you will either find that those verses are omitted, or that there is a footnote, a note, such as in the NIV which states: "The two most reliable early manuscripts do  not have Mark 16:9-20." The first thing to be understood is whether or not the "two most reliable manuscripts" are trustworthy? The NIV is translated from the Critical Text, and uses Griesback version of translation which are assaults on the integrity of the Word and who where repulsed by the Providence of God.  It is the right view of the content of the Bible that will lead a person to right views of the history of the text. The Bible must by true, the Gospel then must be true and necessary for the salvation of souls. Therefore the Bible must have been infallibly inspired and any version that is corrupted must be rejected. The question still remains in regards to Mark 16:9-20; are they genuine portion of the Gospel of Mark? Those who render Mark 16 to end at verse 8 have a difficult task to support this with any satisfactory explanation as to how and why the Gospel came to an end at verse 8. It is so difficult that there has not as yet been an adequate answer. But the last twelve verses of Mark cannot be disowned on the strength of an unsupported statement, even when it is made by the most eminent of modern scholars. For these verses have an enormous weight of testimony in their favor which cannot be lightly set aside. They are found in all the Greek manuscripts except Aleph and B and in all the Latin manuscripts except k. All the Syriac versions contain these verses, with the exception of the Sinaitic Syriac, and so also does the Bohairic version. And, even more important, they were quoted as Scripture by early Church Fathers who lived one hundred and fifty years before B and Aleph were written, namely, Justin Martyr (c. 150), (History Of Modern Philosophy, Hoeffding, vol 1, pp. 472-484), Tatian (c. 175), (Idem, vol. 2, pp. 500 501),  Irenaeus (c. 180), (The Origin Of Life, by A. I. Oparin, trans. by S. Morgulis, 2nd edition, New York: Dover, 1953, pp. 1-18), and Hippolytus (c. 200), (Idem, pp. 19-28.  "On the Origin of Life," by John Keosian, Science, vol. 131 (1960), pp. 479-482). Thus the earliest extant testimony is on the side of these last twelve verses. Surely the critical objections against them must be exceedingly strong to overcome this evidence for their genuineness. This is a short evidence on this verses, I could give much more, but have given both references and only that which, I do hope will cause you to examine this further. Upon a study of those verses in Mark that have caused controversy, there will be found that believing scholars that hold those verses as genuine are more reasonable than scholars who are naturalist and reject them. Why were some omitted in those few manuscripts that do omit them could be accounted for by many reasons, yet up to this time no reason for any omission can explain satisfactorily how a hypothetical "lost ending" of Mark could have disappeared from all the extant New Testament documents or how the author of Mark's Gospel could have left it incomplete without any ending at all.
Allow me to end this blog with these words of reflection: first, as to Bible versions: The culture of today, this modernistic, or post-modernistic culture has affected contemporary Christians so that the demand version that will please them, for they want version in their own idiom. It seems as though they want a Bible that will please them and speak to them as the speak with their friends. In other words, they want an informal God, a God who is no better educated than they themselves. They want a God with a limited vocabulary and a taste for modern slang. Slang words are tossed around today as though this is the way an intelligent person talks, maybe, who knows, they just may be unintelligent and use such phrases as "Hey dude!" The preference is one that has been united with modernistic ideologies, and they united with those modern versions of the Bible that will fit with those views; i.e., R.S.V. or N.E.B. or E.S.V., the N.I.V., or they opt for the T.E.V. or the Living Bible, the Message Bible, and so on.
The Bible version you use must not be a matter of indifference, a matter that you decide according to your whims or prejudices. You must take the time to examine and determine whether the version you use is the truth, the infallible word of God. To check things out is Biblical and if you believe that God is Providential, and does preserve His word as He has told us He would do, and you have not taken time to investigate this matter then all you have done is ignore God who is Providential and have chosen to adopt one of the modern versions that will lead you to take the first step in logic of unbelief. Notice this fact: the arguments that you use to justify your choice are the same arguments that unbelievers us to justify theirs, it is the same method. If you adopt one of these modern versions, you must adopt the naturalistic New Testament textual criticism upon which it rests. This naturalistic textual criticism requires us to study the New Testament text in the same way in which we study the texts of secular books which have not been preserved by God's special providence. In other words, naturalistic textual criticism regards the special, providential preservation of the Scriptures as of no importance for the study of the New Testament text. But if we concede this, then it follows that the infallible inspiration of the Scriptures is likewise unimportant. For why is it important that God should infallibly inspire the Scriptures, if it is not important that He should preserve them by His special providence?
Where did you ever get the idea that it is up to you to decide which Bible version you will receive as God's holy Word. As long as you harbor this false notion, you are little better than an unbeliever. As long as you cherish this erroneous opinion, you are entirely on your own. For you the Bible has no real authority, only that which your rebellious reason deigns to give it. For you there is no comfort no assurance of faith. Cast off, therefore, this carnal mind that leads to death! Put on the spiritual mind that leads to life and peace! Receive by faith the True Text of God's holy Word, which has been preserved down through the ages by His special providence and now is found in the Masoretic Hebrew text, the Greek Textus Receptus, and the King James Version and other faithful translations!
Take your stand with Christ and receive from His hands the True Text of Holy Scripture which He has preserved for you by His special providence. Then, armed with the sword of the Spirit and sheltered by the shield of faith, press on to victory.

Scripture Is Not Just Information Regards God--God is Revealed To Us

No one can serve
two masters;
for either he will
hate the one
and love the other,
or else he will
be loyal to one
and despise the other.
You cannot serve
God and mammon.
Matthew 6:24

Mammon is an Aramaic word derived from "mononas" that means "confidence" or "wealth." This word has a Hebrew relationship that signifying "to be firm," "steadfast,"that which is to be trusted." In the above passage and in Luke 16:9, 11,13, the word is personified. This verse is often applied to mean we should not have two gods, one God of the Bible and one of wealth; this is not a bad rendering, but not good hermeneutics as this verse is more that just about 'wealth." It is that we are to not serve or have confidence in anything else than God and if we have confidence in a Bible that is based upon heretical views we are not serving the God of the Bible who demands that we serve just Him. The Bible reveals to us God, not a notion of a God, not just information that there is a God, but truly He is revealed to us and His purpose for all His creation. Jesus Christ is God! The Nicene Creed (325-381A.D.) states: "We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And on one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father by whom all things were made...." (Nicene Creed). So, when I speak of Christology, I am speaking about God, the Godhead that includes the Holy Spirit, and if our Christology is amiss, then our understanding of God is amiss, and our understanding of the Holy Spirit is amiss. When it is said that the Scriptures reveal us God, and when we say it reveals us Jesus Christ, we are saying the same thing and not two separate beings. Yes, Jesus Christ the Wisdom of God was clothed in our humanity, but not as being separate from God, but as having included in His incarnation both elements, man and God. Therefore, when false theology is transcribed into our Scripture, or false ideas about how to translate Scripture, and when our Bible are not the whole truth about Jesus Christ, then those transcriptions, translations, insertion of false presuppositions, make the Bible not to reveal to us the truth of God. We must know, from our knowledge of and our experiences in, that many Churches and Church leaders adhere to versions of the Bible that are derived, translated from those manuscripts that are full of heretical theology. Gnosticism is just one such heresy, there is Docetism, Donatism, Jewish influence to include Jewish practices, etc., all this was being fought by the early Church; but God has promised to preserve His word, and this He has done, even when the original letters, writings, were transcribed. Man was given by God a brain, and we are to use our brains, when man transcribed the Bible and made changes, most of them only in letters, or word placement, we are not taken away from our humanity and our mistakes, but we are still human, not robots, God is providential, and He is a promise keeper, and uses man, even frail man to accomplish His purpose, and the Bible is one such purpose for by it He is revealed to us. Therefore, it is right, a right thing to do, to examine those manuscripts, and by the guidance of the Holy Spirit we are able to determine what is wrong, what is a wrong insertion and what is correct. It is the Holy Spirit that guides such textural criticism and we must not sit back and tacitly accept all that is given to us as truth, we must not be just pew sitters, we must be active, and determine from such writings of those scholars what is correct and what is false. This is why this blog is considering the Bible. Once we can say with certainty that the Bible we read, and believe in is the truth, then our faith we grow and deepen, and our devotion to God will not have been diminished by heretical views.
Liberal theology has hurt the Church in many ways, notice if you will the increase of divorce among those that claim to be Christian, the allowance of homosexual persons to partake of the communion, to be leaders and teachers in some Churches, the lack of respect by congregants that would not dress the way they do for Church if they were to meet with such as the President of the United States, they seem to be lazy, they cannot even take a few extra minutes to dress appropriately for Church, to show respect and then expect their children to learn respect. When the doctrines of the Bible are filtered by heresy then this all we truly can expect. But is this what God expects? No! When we are told to keep the ten commandments; do you? Or, do you keep most of them; you say, 'I don't steal, don't lie, don't covet, don't bow down to images, (well that is determined by what is your god), don't murder, don't take the name of God in vain, (that may be so, but to take the name of God in vain is not to just use the name by cussing), all this may be true, but one command is often missed and abused: the Sabbath. How often do you park your boat outside of Church so that you can go boating when the service is ended? How often to you require others to serve you lunch, making them work when they should be in fellowship, in Church? How often do we not do what the Sabbath was designed by God, to rest, and keep the day holy (Exodus 20:8)? This laxity comes about when we have a Bible that teaches views about Jesus Christ that are demeaning in many ways to Him, and allow us to just accept Him in that diminished way. When other doctrines of the Bible are so diminished and taught in an inferior manner is when all these unScriptural practices are brought into the Church. To love God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit, we must have a Bible that teaches us the truth, and is infallible, a thing that many so-called Christian scholars have scoffed at, and have notions of God, His Son, the Holy Spirit that are not revealing to us God. May I ask this before I move on? What day do you set aside for God, to fellowship with other brothers and sisters in Christ?
There may be questions that you need answers, such things as one translation includes certain things, others leave those things out, making you wonder, which one is correct, and why are there such discrepancies? For instance, the Lord's Prayer and the doxology, "For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen," (Matthew 6:13b), which is to be found in the King James Bible, the New King James Version, and is absent in the New International Version, among others. Then there is Mark's last chapter, 16: 9-20, which is included in the King James Version, the New King James Version and in the New International Version there is a line below verse eight and a statement: (The two most reliable early manuscripts do not have Mark 16:9-20), is this true? Some versions leave those verses out completely, and only give so reference as to why. Maybe you have wondered why? Another is 1John 5:7: "For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit: and these three are One."  When the Apostle Thomas cried out: "and Thomas answered and said to Him, 'My Lord and my God" (John 20:28)!
Do you believe the Bible to be the infallible word of God, or do you believe that the Bible has some truths and some errors, and that it is just a good book by which we should know and apply to our lives? What is your doctrine in regards to the Bible? How is your view of the Bible guiding your life? Is it legalistic to teach and hold Christians to follow the Bible's teaching as to how we are to live? All this is determined by our view and understanding of the Bible. If we say, as we do, that the Christian Bible is the Word of God and all other religious books are not, we had better not just mouth this opinion, we better know that what we say is true. I cannot go on and teach about the attributes of God until you fully have an understanding of the Bible. It is the Bible from where we are taught about the attributes of God and how we are to live. We are not to become holier than though Christians, we are to as St. Augustine so aptly states: "Love God, and live life." Who is this God you are to love? How are we to live life? All is contained in the Bible! I will address some of the supposed discrepancies that some scholars, pastors, teachers, are lowered the infallibility of the Bible, and teach us what is not true.

For it seemed good to the
     Holy Spirit, and to us,
to lay upon you no greater
    burden that these necessary
things: that you abstain from
    things offered to idols,
from blood, from things strangled,
    and from sexual immorality.
If you keep yourselves from
these, you will do well. Farewell.

Heresy Made Its Way Into Many Transcriptions---They Have Found Their Way Into Some Versions Of The Bible

O God, You have taught me
from my youth;
and to this day I
declare Your wondrous Works.
Now also when I am
old and grayheaded
O God, do not forsake me,
Until I declare Your strength
to this generation,
Your power to everyone
who is to come.
Psalm 71:17-18

The Bible makes it plain and clear that to train up a child, that is when the child is a child, young, teachable, then that child will even if he goes astray, will return to the truth: "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). This fact then places upon the parent to teach the truth and if what is being taught is not the whole truth, and has imbedded in their teaching, even from lack of knowledge, innocence due to not knowing the truth themselves, what may be taught is misleading in some fashion and will mislead a person to worship, to understand God, to have a Christology, that is not Scriptural. It is not that they cannot know God, nor is it that God has not elect them to salvation, it is how they live their life, their exercise of their faith: this many of us who have traveled life for awhile can testify as being true: God had to chastise us in ways that are very unpleasant. God does chastise those He loves for He gives correction to His children "For who the LORD loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives" (Hebrews 12:6; cf. Proverbs 3:11-12). What will be the chastening from God to correct us will be due to how much chastening will be needed when we have a belief, an action, a manner in which we have exercised our life according to our beliefs, or lack of belief; when we have not come to the truth, only that we think we have the truth. Even cults believe they have the truth, but true sons of God are not satisfied with some tacit knowledge, they search the Scriptures, they compare the versions, and they pray for guidance which God will give in their search and desire to know Him, and to know Him in truth. An analogy will help us to understand what it means to miss the target: Shoot for the moon but be off target 1/10" and you will miss by miles, the trip may be pleasuable, but you may end up on Uranus. If you want to hit the target, aim carefully, correctly and you will hit the bullseye.
Gnosticism found its way into many Churches and into the thinking of many people and did and has affected their transcriptions as they either inserted a belief or omitted certain portions that would speak against their beliefs. Here is one such omission that changes the meaning and impact of a verse: John 3:13: καὶ οὐδεὶς ἀναβέβηκεν εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν εἰ μὴ ὁ ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καταβάς ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ὁ ὤν ἐν τῷ οὐραν: The terxtus Receptus reads: (And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down form heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. I place the omitted words in bold red. Just for further clarification I will give the literal Greek: "And no one has gone up into Heaven, except He having come down out of Heaven, the Son of Man, who is in Heaven." To give more understanding I will give the parsing of this Greek word that is found in this verse: ἀναβέβηκεν, It is in the perfect tense and is indicative, that is when a word is in the perfect tense the meaning is that this event happened and has continuing results now and forever. Also the Greek word: καταβάς, is in the Second Aorist and means that an event happened in the past and the results are still present. But, notice the words in bold/red: ὁ ὤν ἐν τῷ οὐραν: Who is in heaven. The manuscripts that contain these words are:

This alteration involves the removal of a statement of omnipresence concerning the Lord Jesus Christ while He was on the earth. While both affirm that Christ came down from heaven, the Alexandrian reading removes the statement about the Son being concurrently IN heaven. This reflects the general Gnostic view that while the Savior "alien god" was in the material world, he was completely separated from the Unknown Everlasting in the realm of Light, just as were the lost bits of Light within each man and woman whom the alien Savior came to restore to the realm of Light (see H. Jonas, The Gnostic Religion, pp. 75-80). In Gnostic theorem, the Savior had to be separated completely from the Everlasting Father to be able to enter into the realm of the material world, and the Byzantine reading of this verse would suggest just the opposite, that the Savior was both on earth in His physical body, yet also contemporaneously in heaven.
This is but one such verse, there are thousands and they do affect Christology, they diminish Jesus Christ and the Gospel. I will not even attempt to give all those variants and corruptions, but will give some more so that your appetite will be wet, so to speak, to want more, to know more, and to examine the Bible you carry, read, and expect to be the whole truth, not having some heretical insertions. God reveals Himself to us by means of the Scripture, and nature, but it is the Scripture that teaches us about Him; therefore it is the Scriptures we must trust. The Scriptures are God-given which correct our faulty spiritual visions, our wrong views of Him, enable us to Him as He is and what He has revealed to us. The Bible is more for it teaches us the history of God's dealing with men from creation unto the final judgment. In the Scriptures God reveals Himself as the covenant keeping God. God makes promises and keeps them. He requires of us faith and obedience. The Psalmist writes:
"All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep His covenant and His testimonies" (Psalm 25:10). Moses after his meeting with God on Mt. Sinai read and spoke to the Israelites: "And he took the Book of the Covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient" (Exodus 24:7).
Will you agree to do all that God as asked? Are you willing to be obedient to all that God has said to do? This is what this blog is all about: Changing from the Inside/Out. I do hope and pray that this study of the Scriptures, those various versions, will be faith building and life changing, so that we will stand before God on the Last Day and here: "....'Well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord" (Matthew 25:23).

Then the King, will
     say to those
on His right hand,
     'Come, you blessed
of My Father, inherit
     the kingdom prepared
for you from the foundation
     of the world.
